A request from Brian to see a full suite of photos of the magnificent Titan arum complete its flowering cycle led me on a quest to the Melbourne RBG. Its Amorphophallus titanum flowered late last year & they’ve generously shared their photo record.
Click on the first image to watch a slideshow of the titan arum from when it makes its first appearance, to a towering spike 28 days later, full bloom in another 9 days (pity we can’t smell it too – or maybe not….), pollen collection, then dying back until the flower is finally dissected by RBG botanists. Photo 7 has got to be my favourite!
