Bronte House garden, Sydney will be open on 21-22 of September 2013.
The gardens and principal rooms in the house will be open from 10am to 4pm, admission $8 for adults/concessions $4. Children under 5 FREE.
The garden at Bronte House is looking better than ever thanks to mild spring temperatures and the open days are a great day out for all the family.
Developed over 15 years ago, the colour scheme of the Carriageway Borders is derived from the masculine deep tones of the Victorian era, including blue and purple Salvia and Wigandia orange Canna ‘Wyoming’ and contrasting burgundy Altenanthera and Crinum. The Hippeastrum papilo is out in flower along the bamboo fence which has a beautiful mauve wisteria climbing along beside it.
A short walk from the beautiful Bronte Beach, the house is the only example of early Victorian architecture in Sydney that faces the ocean. Bronte House is only open a few days each year, giving garden enthusiasts and locals an opportunity to wander through a modern interpretation of a Victorian garden surrounding a 19th century gothic cottage.
In the mid 1800s, Mrs. Georgina Lowe, a skilled watercolour artist, botanist and gardener, was originally responsible for landscaping the grounds with native and exotic plants and designing picturesque walks.
Bronte House gardener Carla Pettitt will be available to answer gardening questions and to give horticultural advice, while landscape designer Myles Baldwin will be on hand to talk about the relationship between the architecture and Bronte’s unique horticultural traits. Signed copies of his popular books ‘Period Gardens’ and ‘Rural Australian Garden’ will also be for sale at the door for a special open day price and a few propagated plants from the garden at Bronte House.
