Buckingham Palace has had some fun and games in its garden – a football match celebrating 150 years of the Football Association.
The match organised by Prince William between Civil Service FC, the only original 1863 FA club still in existence and Polytechnic FC, founded in 1875, ended in a 2-1 win for Polytechnic. Uniformed palace footmen provided the appropriate half-time oranges and water.
It is the first time that Buckingham Palace, with its 30 acres of grounds, has hosted a football match. Apparently no windows were broken.
