WOW! GardenDrum has WON 2 SILVER AWARDS from the USA Garden Writers Association – one award for ‘Website Overall’ and another for ‘Blog – Overall Site’. This makes GardenDrum a double finalist for the coveted GOLD awards, presented in Pittsburg in August. And the judges’ comments!…

14 Silver Logo v1The GWA has over 1400 members and in 2014 there were 261 entries in the awards. The awards are given at two levels: Silver Awards of Achievement and Gold Awards for Best Talent or Best Product, representing the best of each artistic category (writing, photography, etc.) and the best of each product (book, magazine, blog, website etc.). Silver Awards are are announced in May, and the Gold Awards presented in August.

Silver GWA Media Awards of Achievement represent ‘exceptional work’, based upon an objective point system evaluating information accuracy, content, organization, style and originality. Entries placing in the top 10% of this non-competitive scoring receive the Silver Award of Achievement and become semi-finalists for the competitive Gold Award of Achievement for Best Talent or Best Product in each category.

And what did the judges say about GardenDrum?

“This excellent blog with an international flavor is fun to explore because of its many contributors and wide range of garden topics, supported by excellent photography. Where many blogs may show a photograph or two of a particular garden, Garden Drum features up to a dozen, enabling the reader to get a really good sense of scale and design integrity. It is as much fun to navigate as reading a first-class garden magazine.”

“Huge site with lots of expert writers reporting on different gardening topics. There’s a little something for everyone! Great job.”

“I rate this website very highly, principally for the wealth of information, its international focus, and the high quality of its photography.”

“Huge and comprehensive website with lots of writers. Well organized and easy to find content. Provides a good gardening resource to Australian gardeners. Great job!”

“Original and well thought out content on this site.  I enjoy the traveling experience as I visit each post. The links are easy to navigate on the site.”

Dear Catherine,
excellent comments from the Judges and well deserved for all the hard work you put into GD, a publication I’ve come to dread seeing in the In Box, as I KNOW a minimum 20 mins compulsive reading is mandatory with such interesting “planty”, industry, local and international content THAT IS SO GOOD I can’t resist. Prospective further advertisers should take note, readers of their product or service by association with such stand out content is a low risk for return on their investment FOR SURE !

Catherine, it is always heartening to see someone’s vision recognised and acknowledged. I’m sure that when you began you had no idea just how much hard work would be involved, those hours and hours of coordination, sifting, editing and – of course! – fixing computer glitches! But oh, it has all come together so beautifully, with contributors and readers gradually extending around the world. And the next thing, the travel hub – what a clever idea!
Congratulations, Catherine. I really hope that you win the gold, because it is 100% deserved.

Agree that the recognition is well deserved. Your site, as the judges say, definitely has an international flavour, yet seems to maintain its Aussie feel. I love the variety that you cover. It never seems like a hotch potch, but is well integrated. Well done. Hugs, Bernard

Congrats from me too, Catherine. I admire your vision and determination to make Garden Drum happen and continue – and excel!!

I have written before of your wonderful way of writing: I think you spread your enthusiasm to all your contributors, and the resulting standard is always excellent. I echo Helen Mckerral’s comments that I’m sure you didn’t realise just what a mammoth undertaking this would become, but you have succeeded brilliantly. Roll on August and hopefully 2 Golds: you and everyone who is involved deserve them. Thank you
