GARDEN TOUR HUB has won the International Garden Tourism Council’s 2014 award for Website of the Year!
After only launching Garden Tour Hub earlier this year, I was amazed to find that it was already getting quite a bit of an international attention….and then an AWARD. Woot! 🙂
The awards were presented at the annual Gardens Without Limits conference, held this year in Metz, France, on 1 October 2014. (No I didn’t get there in person 🙁 )
Garden Tourism Awards are presented to organisations and individuals who have distinguished themselves in the development and promotion of the garden experience as a tourism attraction. Now presented annually, the inaugural Garden Tourism Awards – the only such awards program in the world – were first awarded at the 2011 North American Garden Tourism Conference held in Toronto, Canada.
The citation from Michel Gautier, Executive Director of the Canadian Garden Council says:
“This Award underlines your outstanding success with Garden Tour Hub and its contribution to positioning the garden experience sector with the tourism industry.”
Garden Tour Hub offers visitors a unique ability to search for and compare guided and self-guided garden tours and cruises from a wide range of tour companies, and save preferred tours to their Travel Wallet for further consideration. Garden Tour Hub also features many ‘mini-break’ events, including shorter guided tours, garden shows, festivals, conferences and plant fairs, promoting national and international garden tourism to a wide range of destinations and potential customers.
“Tourism is the world’s number one industry. And Garden Tourism is a significant part of it. Dr. Richard Benfield, author of ‘Garden Tourism’, estimates that annually there are 120 million garden tourists worldwide. If garden events and tours were included, the number would reach more than 300 million,”
said Alexander Reford, director of Jardins de Métis in Québec, Canada and chair of the Canadian Garden Council. “It is a great pleasure to celebrate the contributions that gardens make to the international tourism offering for travellers from around the world.”
Wow, well done Catherine. Congratulations! Australians punching above their weight again and leading the world. Shame you missed being in France to accept the accolade though….
