Petrichor is that amazing smell you get when rain first hits the soil after a long period of dry. But how does that happen?
Scientists have been studying what happens when a raindrop hits the soil surface and have discovered that tiny bubbles form in the droplet. These explode off the surface of the droplet, carrying tiny aerosol particles infused with soil microorganisms which creates a distinctive aroma, called petrichor.
