Leon Kluge, award-winning show garden designer, today helped launch Auckland’s first New Zealand Flower and Garden Show, set for late November 2016.
The show will bring an international garden show back to New Zealand’s North Island. Ellerslie, the famous New Zealand garden show moved from Auckland to Christchurch in 2008 but has since folded.
The New Zealand Flower and Garden Show will be held from 24-27 November 2016 at picturesque Bastion Point, which features spectacular views across Waitemata Harbour.
The traditional Māori owners of Bastion Point, the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, are excited to have their land used for the show, with Wayne Pihema, Chair of Whai-Maia saying:
“It is fitting that Bastion Point should be a meeting place for designers of all nations who share our love of the visual and spiritual properties of plants”
Show manager Kate Hiller, herself an award-winning designer, says that the show will have a strong focus on community and culture and also showcase international trends such as organic gardening and edible gardens.
The New Zealand Flower and Garden Show 2016 has support from some of the world’s top show garden designers, including Leon Kluge and Australia’s Jim Fogarty. Add a hoped-for 200 exhibitors and 100 displays, and the show is already looking very promising.
