Have you ever tried to knit a tree? The Stoke Newington Common Users Group (SNUG) said that was when their fun started! An active part of SNUG is their knitting group, Common Thread, who created this 3D knitted and crocheted model of their Common. They are holding workshops at the Chelsea Fringe Festival, which runs from 21 May until 12 June 2016.
The Chelsea Fringe is the alternative UK garden festival, and anyone in London while it’s on can attend Common Thread’s workshops on creating all manner of botanical items with yarn.
Also, as part of this year’s Chelsea Fringe you have the opportunity to send in your very own ‘Desert Island Plant’ selection!
When Beth Chatto was asked about the plants she could not live without, she said, “Amelanchier lamarckii… good form in winter, lovely foliage in spring or autumn, prettier than many cherries (daintier) – and interesting longer.”
When they asked Christopher Lloyd the same question, one of his choices was a dahlia, “ ‘Hillcrest Royal’ is a spiky medium cactus of brilliant purple, not quite magenta colouring.”
What would you say if asked? You can now have your say about your favourite plant by answering the question “My Desert Island Plant would be… “
