I love concept gardens at shows. Many don’t, preferring something that looks like a ‘real’ garden. But where’s the challenge in that?
30,000 silver spoons are stuck, handle down, reflecting the sunlight in this wonderful concept garden ‘Les kuijers‘, designed by Julien Mizermont and Céline Califano for the 2003 Château de Chaumont international garden festival. Large patches of grass have been lifted into the air on one side, and supported by wooden stakes.
Their statement says: “A single spoon left behind after a picnic has multiplied into thousands of spoons, to the point of completely draining the ground and lifting out whole sections of it. All around this garden in upheaval spreads a red and white chequered tablecloth composed of perennial and annual plants.”
Crazy, or clever? Daft or decorative? Sensational or silly?
