Gerbera is the 2013 USA National Garden Bureau Flower of the Year.
There are about 30 species of gerbera, native to Africa, South America and Asia. Extensive breeding in recent years has produced gerberas for cut flower production in more colours and with thicker stems that no longer require florist wire, an important improvement that has made gerberas the fifth most popular cut flower in the world.
The Garvinea series, a colourful range of perennial gerbera make it possible for gardeners in colder zones down to USDA 7 to enjoy these garden favourites as well.
