Cucamelons, which looks like a grape-sized watermelon but tastes like a cucumber with a tinge of lime has been released in the UK through Suttons Seeds.
Melothria scabra (syn. pendula) is a vigorous trailing plant from Central America that produces fruit right through the summer, known in Mexico as ‘Sandiitas de raton’, or ‘little mouse watermelons’. In the UK you can either grow it as an annual or lift it in cold districts and replant the following spring.
It’s sold in Australia through Diggers Seeds as a ‘Mexican sour gherkin‘. Might want to work on that name……
