Monty Don has been displaced by snooker on TV – and he’s not happy. The Gardeners’ World presenter has attacked the BBC for ditching his gardening show for what he calls ‘cheap’ coverage of snooker.
Gardeners’ World won’t be broadcast during May in favour of the World Snooker Championships. Viewers of the popular gardening show, recently reaching 2.6m, are displeased and have taken to the internet and social media to complain. It seems they are fed up with their much-loved show being pushed aside by TV sporting coverage. As well as being displaced by the snooker in May, Gardeners’ World goes off the air for Wimbledone coverage during June and July. One expert says the BBC is ‘short-changing licence fee payers who like gardening’.
A Twitter conversation has ensued with Don, avid fans and experts all being very vocal about what they see as the BBC ‘letting down the nation’s gardeners’.
