An american native plant garden has opened at The New York Botanical Garden. The new garden, described as cutting-edge and the most contemporary garden created at NYBG, was designed by Oehme van Sweden, leading landscape architects in the New American Garden style.
Covering 1.4 ha it boasts a 70m long water feature as its centrepiece. Flanking the central water feature is a promenade of broad boardwalks, leading to the shaded woodland, the dry open meadow, and lush wetlands. The garden features nearly 100,000 native trees, shrubs, ferns grasses and wildflowers, its framework a dramatic set of heritage oak trees.
