Breaking Free. Design Leon Kluge

Landscape designer Leon Kluge has won Gold in the Home Garden section of the Gardening World Cup 2013 in Japan for his garden ‘Breaking Free’. Malaysian design duo John Tan and Raymond Toh won the Show Garden division and Best in Show for their garden “Timeless Tropical – Peace with Nature”.

Leon’s garden tells the story of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela – imprisoned for decades by a apartheid government on Robben Island but still able, on his release, to break free of those mental shackles and unite his country into a newly democratic ‘rainbow nation’.
