Christchurch Botanic Gardens has won Best in Show at the Ellerslie International Flower Show 2014 with its garden ‘Burn After Reeding’.
Featuring reeds and rushes in a contemporary setting, ‘Burn After Reeding’ uses texture and form as well as colour to create a strong composition, with contrasting blackened totem-style match ‘heads’ adding some drama.
UK designer Andy Sturgeon who is Ellerslie’s Convenor of Judges commented that the garden is
“High on horticulture, sculpture and drama with a strong and clever concept”
Christchurch Botanic Gardens also won the Supreme Design Excellence Award for Burn After Reeding.
