2015 in Australia will see a wave of Gallipoli campaign 100th anniversary products, including a new Gallipoli Centenary Rose, introduced by Treloar Roses in conjunction with the ANZAC Day Commemorative Committee (ADCC).
Bred by a German company W. Kordes’ Sons (ironic, but maybe it reflects the true spirit of ANZAC), the bush rose has clusters of big, deep-red blooms on a dense bush to about 1.2m (4ft) tall.
The Gallipoli Centenary Rose has already won several awards including an international gold medal and Best Shrub and a Bronze Medal at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia.
Available by mail order bare-rooted from June 2015, the Gallipoli Centenary Rose can be pre-ordered now from Treloar Roses and selected nurseries. It will be on display at the 2015 Melbourne Flower and Garden Show. $1 from each sale will to ADCC Queensland to fund ANZAC education in Australian schools and other war veteran projects.
