Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is the 2015 International Garden of the Year, awarded by the International Garden Tourism Network.

Kirstenbosch is always on the ‘must see’ list for any tourist to South Africa and its popularity continues to grow, with more than 1 million visitors in 2014, and increase of 27% on the previous year.

Kirstenbosch curator Philip le Roux said that

“We strive to offer visitors a unique experience at Kirstenbosch. As the flagship garden of the South African National Biodiversity institute (SANBI) we are proud to be recognised at these prestigious awards. Our garden offers many unusual experiences and showcases the diverse Cape Floral kingdom in a very accessible way. The addition of the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway has added to the attractions of the garden.”

The International Garden Tourism Awards recognise significant contributions to garden tourism and the 250 million tourists who visit gardens worldwide every year.
