Stephen Ritz and his Green Bronx Machine project has increased attendance at his disadvantaged school from 43% to an astonishing 93%. And, as he says, “if I have their bodies in school, I have their brain”.
Apart from the benefits of higher school attendance, Ritz’s program is also teaching children who have grown up on cheap, fast food how to eat more healthy options. He also believes that by learning about nature, children learn to nurture, an essential part of a healthy society.
“Plant by plant, classroom by classroom, Green Bronx Machine is improving outcomes and changing destinies”.
