Thompson & Morgan at Jimmy's Farm

UK mail-order plant and seed company Thompson and Morgan has an open garden with a difference – a place to see hundreds of their plants ‘in the flesh’ at Jimmy’s Farm in Ipswich, Suffolk.

While plant and seed buyers have a long tradition of mail order purchase, pouring over catalogues during the long winter, they also relish the opportunity to see stock before they purchase. Colours, fragrance, sizes and the overall effect of a plant are very hard to judge unless you can see, feel and smell them.

Thompson and Morgan had open garden days some years ago but found that their own Ipswich nursery site couldn’t take the wear and tear of thousands of gardeners keen to see the whole catalogue of plants on display.

Enter Jimmy’s Farm, a rare breeds farm just down the road which has now has a display garden of flower-filled garden beds, potted plants, T&M’s Flower Pouches™ for wall and fence gardens and also trial beds of some experimental varieties on show.

The display is free, and open every day 9.30am-5pm until September.
