The Chelsea Plant of the Year 2016 goes to Clematis chiisanensis AMBER. The winner, second and third place plants were awarded from 20 on the shortlist for the RHS Plant of the Year.
The top prize went to Clematis chiisanensis AMBER (‘Wit141205’) from Taylors Clematis. It has nodding heads of a yellow/cream colouring which bloom from early to mid-summer with a second flush in September (in the northern hemisphere).
Geum ‘Scarlet Tempest’ displayed by Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants at the Show was awarded second place. Bred by Elizabeth MacGregor in 2012 from parentage of G. ‘Beech House Apricot’ × G. chiloense ‘Red Dragon’.
Calendula POWERDAISY SUNNY (‘Kercalsun’) (PowerDaisy Series) on display in Sun Flower Square at the Show was awarded third place. It has bright yellow flowers on a spreading plant which is easy to grow in containers and borders.
