Chief Executive of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Tim Entwisle, is thrilled to announce Melbourne will play host to the 2021 Global Botanic Gardens Congress.
The proposed theme for the congress is ‘Botanic gardens as provocation,’ which will explore botanic gardens’ responses to climate change and increasing urbanisation while respecting the needs and aspirations of Australia’s first peoples.
Professor Entwisle, while announcing the winning bid to the 6th Global Botanic Gardens Congress in Geneva this week, said:
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the global botanic gardens community to Melbourne and to showcase our magnificent city to the world at the seventh Global Botanic Gardens Congress.”
The year coincides with the RBG Melbourne’s 175th anniversary.
The five day congress will host a number of presentations, presenters and personalities from the global community, including scientific experts in their field. There will also be site tours to local and regional areas as part of the program.
The congress will run from 7 – 11 February 2021 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
