The Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers (AILDM) awards for 2017 highlight the type and variety of challenges landscape designers face.
The Awards feature projects ranging from rural and coastal homes, to family backyards and courtyards, to rooftops and balconies. Reading the briefs behind the designs helps to understand the complexities of issues dealt with. The beautiful images of the end results often give no indication of the problems the designers had to overcome.
Anyone with a garden will know what challenges it can throw up, and how the best made plans can go off the rails once you start digging or moving plants around. This brings into focus how useful and clever landscape designers can be, using their skills to devise solutions that work and look terrific too.
